What's changing for Abingdon 2026?
We've drilled right down into the data from 2025 and, with the help of specialist event traffic experts, identified some genuinely exciting new ways to flatten the peak in arrivals, significantly reduce delays and dramatically improve communication with everyone travelling to and from the event.
But it's not just traffic we've looked at. We've reviewed the whole event experience, from the moment you arrive until the moment you leave.
For 2026, you can expect:

Reduced capacity
Fewer people, more space and a more exclusive, comfortable experience.

An earlier Main Display, and our BIGGEST EVER
Our spectacular 270° wrap-around fireworks, lasers and lighting show will take place earlier in the evening, giving you even more time to enjoy everything else afterwards.

A slightly smaller, much better-positioned bonfire
Moved right into the heart of the audience area so you can gather around it and keep warm. Crucially, it will be lit AFTER the fireworks, meaning smoke and heat from the fire cannot interfere with the Main Display, while also giving you a reason to stick around afterwards rather than everyone leaving at once.

Our BIGGEST fairground yet
Opening earlier, with discounted rides until 4pm to encourage you to arrive early, beat the traffic and make a full afternoon and evening of it.

A NEW dedicated access corridor across the event site
Creating a clear route from one side of the event to the other and helping prevent crowd bottlenecks between the fireworks viewing area, fairground and ticket gates.

Pre-booked parking with arrival slot
The earlier you choose to arrive, the cheaper your parking, from £4. This gives a genuine incentive to arrive earlier and helps spread traffic throughout the afternoon.

Smart route and car park allocation
Your route and parking area will be allocated based on your home postcode, balancing vehicles across the available road network rather than allowing individual routes and car parks to become overloaded.

The latest ANPR technology across every entry lane
Each lane will have its own ANPR system, manned by dedicated staff, providing live vehicle counts and real-time car park occupancy data directly to Traffic Control.

An additional NEW permanent exit gate
Creating another route off the airfield, increasing egress capacity and helping vehicles leave the site more efficiently.

Live traffic updates
Information delivered directly to customers' mobiles alongside live messaging on roadside LED VMS boards, allowing us to communicate route information, delays and important updates in real time.

Our biggest-ever investment in traffic management and car parking
Working with specialist consultants and one of the country's leading specialist event traffic management companies to completely refine the way traffic is managed.

A NEW dedicated on-site Traffic Control Centre
Bringing together live ANPR data from every entry lane, real-time car park occupancy, traffic feeds and dynamic route switching, allowing the team to react immediately to changing conditions and keep everything moving.
The objective isn't simply to put more traffic management on the roads. It's to make the entire event smarter: controlling where vehicles go before they even leave home, spreading arrivals across the afternoon, balancing traffic between routes and car parks, reacting to conditions in real time and keeping customers properly informed throughout their journey.
We listened. We learned. We drilled into the data. And for 2026 we're making some of the biggest changes and improvements since the event began.
